Cragend Farm has been in existence since the 16th century. Now records from the Duke of Northumberland's Archives reveal that Lord William Armstrong of Cragside bought Cragend Farm from the Duke in 1874 with a view to making a model farm for his prize cattle.

In 2011 Shaun & Lou Renwick bought the farm from the Armstrong Family and have spent the following years renovating the barns into Cragend Grange, a family home that offers Bed & Breakfast rooms for travellers to Northumberland.

A 'Grange' means a granary and you can see from the photograph that the top rooms of the barns are the granary where there is historic farming graffitti dating from 1890. Oats, barley and wheat were stored in the upper floors and then loaded into carts via a metal shute to be weighed at our weighbridge.
