The Coquet Valley is renowned for its Dark Skies and a great deal of Northumberland has Dark Sky Status. On a clear dark night we have some amazing views of the stars and sky, and the moon often looks amazing too.

Cragend Farm is on the border of the Dark Sky and National Park area. We are 20 miles from Keilder Water where there is an observatory for the earnest astronomer to take a look at the stars at night and take part in a collection of seminars that they hold throughout the year.

The IDA, based in Tucson, USA, granted Gold Tier Dark Sky Park status to the combined areas of Northumberland National Park and Kielder Water & Forest Park

The new zone - now known as the Northumberland Dark Sky Park (NDSP) - is the first of its kind in England and one of the largest in the world, joining the likes of Death Valley and Big Bend Dark Sky Parks in the USA. Gold tier designation is the highest accolade that the IDA can bestow.

Northumberland has achieve the prestigious status spearheaded by Northumberland National Park Authority, Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust and the team at the Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society.
